How to spot a loan scam UK: warning signs and impersonation

Knowing how to spot a loan scam in the UK protects your business. Practical advice on the warning signs and how to confirm you are dealing with the genuine Credicorp Limited.

How to spot a loan scam UK: warning signs and impersonation

Unfortunately, fraudsters sometimes use the names of established lenders to trick people. We want our customers to be able to spot the warning signs.

Common warning signs

  • pressure to act or pay immediately, before you have time to think;
  • a request to pay into a bank account you do not recognise;
  • an upfront "fee" demanded before a loan is released;
  • contact details, web addresses or email domains that do not match our own;
  • requests for passwords or full security details, which we would never ask for in full.

How to check you are dealing with us

The genuine Credicorp Limited has one UK website — credicorp.co.uk — and our email addresses use that domain. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 16093826, with a registered office in West Drayton UB7 0LB. You can verify our registration on the Companies House register.

If anything does not add up, stop and check. Contact us using the details on this website, not the details in a suspicious message. If you think you have been targeted by a scam, you can also report it to Action Fraud. Taking a moment to confirm is always worth it.

Common questions about loan scams in the UK

What is a loan fee scam?

A loan fee scam is when a fraudster poses as a lender and demands an upfront payment before releasing a loan that does not exist. Legitimate lenders, including Credicorp, never charge a fee before a loan is paid out. If someone asks you to pay in advance to receive a business loan, stop and report it.

How do I verify I am dealing with the real Credicorp?

Check that the website address is exactly credicorp.co.uk (no extra words, hyphens, or different domains). Our email addresses end @credicorp.co.uk. You can verify our registration as Credicorp Limited, company number 16093826, on the official Companies House register at companies-house.gov.uk. If in doubt, contact us directly via the details on this page — not details you received in an unsolicited message.

What should I do if I think I've been targeted by a loan scam?

Stop all contact with the suspected fraudster. If you have lost money, report it to Action Fraud (actionfraud.police.uk or 0300 123 2040). If the scam impersonated Credicorp, please let us know at clients@credicorp.co.uk so we can track the pattern and warn other customers.
